I’ve always loved animals. Their beauty, personalities and wonderful variety never cease to amaze me.
But this particular giraffe has a little family connection behind it.
Giraffes are my sister’s favourite animals, and one day I felt inspired to paint one while thinking about her.
It wasn’t a painting I made specifically for her. I simply had her in my thoughts as I painted, enjoying the giraffe’s distinctive markings, gentle expression and wonderfully unusual appearance.
I love how our connections with people can find their way into our creativity in such unexpected ways.
For me, this painting is a lovely reminder that inspiration can come from the simplest things — even knowing what makes someone you love smile.
